NESTLÉ NESPRAY brought together stakeholders in education and nutrition sectors both private and public in a panel discussion to discuss solutions aimed at boosting learner’s mathematics performance of primary school learners in the intermediate phase in South Africa. At the event they launched the NESTLÉ NESPRAY South African Mathematics Challenge, an annual competition for primary school learners organised by the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF).
South Africa ready to take on the IMO -Thursday, 23 May 2019
Six high school learners have been selected to participate in the 60th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) to be held in Bath, the United Kingdom from the 10th till the 22nd of July 2019.
Primary schools across the country are encouraged to enter their grade 4-7 learners to partake in the South African Mathematics Challenge (SAMC) which is now sponsored by Nestlé. The closing date for entries is on the 30th of April.
The 27th Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) took place in South Africa from 31 March to 6 April 2019. Youssef Chaabouni from Tunisia was crowned the 2019 PAMO champion. This year 13 African countries attended with 2 countries sending only observers for future participation. 57 contestants from 11 African countries took part in the PAMO which was hosted by the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) and the African Institute for Mathematical Science (AIMS) in Muizenberg, Cape Town.

A record number of 13 countries have registered for this prestigious event hosted by the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) and the African Institute for Mathematical Science (AIMS) in Muizenberg, Cape Town.
Throughout her career Professor Kerstin Jordaan, newly appointed Executive Director of the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF), has made a substantial contribution to inclusive growth and development in Mathematics by providing leadership, support and guidance to grass-root initiatives of Mathematics educators and researchers. It is these skills she wants to bring to SAMF to enhance the way Mathematics can contribute to a vibrant and innovative South Africa.
The 2019 leg of the South African Mathematics Olympiad (SAMO) is underway and entries close on the 1st of February. Secondary schools are urged to enter any eligible high school learner to test and enhance their problem solving skills.
The South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) has honoured outstanding learners and teachers for their performance in the 2018 South African Mathematics Olympiad (SAMO) and the South African Mathematics Challenge (SAMC).
Western Province A and Wits Siyanqoba A teams retain their ASSA Mathematics Team Competition crown on Saturday the 8th of September. 87 teams from 16 regions took part in the competition organised by the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF).
