While other learners will be taking a break from schoolwork 67 determined learners will be attending the annual Mathematical Camp. The camp is hosted by the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) at the University of Stellenbosch from the 5th till the 9th of December 2016.

Mohammed Yaseen Mowzer and Mohammed Taariq Mowzer are brilliant young men who have their minds in the right places. These brothers are maths geniuses and have done exceptionally well in the SA Mathematics Olympiad (SAMO) over the past years. The pair are introverts and are about to make history as great mathematicians.

Mathematics, as a science, plays a big role in addressing many problems such as global warming, over-population, starvation, traffic congestion, terrorism and war. In combating and addressing some of these problems, mathematics as the language of modern science generally, can play a big role.

It’s all systems go for the 27th of July 2016 when primary and high school learners will be testing their mathematical ability as the final round of the South African Mathematics Olympiad (SAMO) and the South African Mathematics Challenge (SAMC) will be written at designated schools and centres across South Africa.

Six South African high school learners have been selected to participate in the 57th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) to be held in Hong Kong from the 6 - 16 July 2016. Last year this prestigious Olympiad took place in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

This year 45 contestants from 8 African countries took part in the 24th Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO). The South African team came out with flying colours ending up as winners in both the overall competitions as well as PAMO-G (the competition for girls); Tunisia was 2nd and Côte d’Ivoire third. The girls also took part in the PAMO-G which is an Olympiad for girls that runs concurrently with the PAMO. SangEun Lee not only won the PAMO-G, but also won the overall competition and was crowned the Queen of Mathematics for the second year in a row.
