Western Province A and Wits Siyanqoba A teams retain their ASSA Mathematics Team Competition crown on Saturday the 8th of September. 87 teams from 16 regions took part in the competition organised by the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF).
Romania hosted the world’s brightest mathletes at the 59th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) from the 3rd till the 14th of July. South Africa won one bronze medal and is ranked 62nd out of 107 countries.
South Africa was crowned the 2018 Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) champion. This year 47 contestants from 9 African countries took part in the 26th PAMO. The South African team came out with flying colours ending up as winners in the overall competition, as well as PAMO-G (the competition for girls).
Six Capetonian high school learners have been selected to participate in the 59th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) to be held in Cluj Napoca, Romania from the 03rd till the 14th of July 2018. Last year this prestigious Olympiad took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The 26th Pan African Mathematics Olympiad PAMO/PAMO(G) will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 23rd to 30th June 2018. The South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) selected six high school learners to represent South Africa at the annual event; the three girls will also compete against other African girls in PAMO-G, which is the mathematics Olympiad for girls.
A joint initiative between Telkom Foundation, the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF) and the Dr CL Smith Foundation aims to improve the quality of mathematics outcomes by offering professionally developed lesson plans and support for grade 10 teachers.
On Saturday, the 9th of September 2017 learners from South Africa and neighbouring countries took part in the ASSA South African Maths Team competition organised by the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF). Western Province Senior A team and Wits Siyanqoba Junior A team won the competition.

SA MATHS TEAM BAGS 2 MEDALS IN BRAZIL -Tuesday, 25 July 2017
The national Mathematics team earned two bronze medals to end their campaign ranked 60th out of 111th countries at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
This year 46 official contestants from 10 African countries took part in the 25th Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) from 1 to 6 July in Rabat, Morocco. The South African team came third overall, behind Morocco and Tunisia with four individual bronze medals.
