Mathematics Teaching and Learning Framework
The Department of Basic Education has developed a new framework for the learning and teaching of Mathematics. The framework was approved by the Minister of Basic Education towards the end of 2018 and will be piloted in 2019. It will not replace the existing curriculum, but aims to improve the way Mathematics is taught. The four pillars of the framework are:
- Conceptual understanding
- Procedural fluency
- Own strategies (including problem solving)
- Reasoning
